How do I clean a stain on my mattress?

The best way to solve this problem is prevention. If you think about it, $40-$50 to protect your $1000 mattress is not a bad investment. Something like Sealy Bed Armor will protect your mattress from stains, liquids, bed bugs and other allergens. You can also vacuum your mattress every couple of months just to get any dust or dust mites that may have gotten on your bed.

If do happen to get a stain on your bed, the first thing you want to do is try to soak it up with towels and dry the surface as quickly as possible. Liquids will speed the breakdown of your comfort layers, and will also cause stains which will void your warranty. You can either use an upholstery shampoo, or mix a mild detergent with water until suds form. Apply the suds only to the soiled area using a sponge that is damp (but not wet). Another option is to spray white vinegar on if there is an odor associated. After you have finished, blot the area to remove as much liquid as possible and let your mattress air dry.

Once the area has dried, you can sprinkle it with baking soda (just make sure that the vinegar is completely dry if it was used) to remove any odors that may have been left behind. Leave this for a couple of hours to allow it to absorb as much odor as possible and then vacuum it off. The goal of this process is to remove the stain without saturating your mattress, so make sure to use very small amounts of liquid.
